It has been many moons (well 2) Since i last posted. Well things have been fairly hectic as we approach\u00a0full production. FOAM\u00a0digital\u00a0now has 35+ people and we no longer fit in our meeting room, so we are\u00a0looking to move from our existing\u00a0premises\u00a0(lecture room) into another premises (a bigger lecture room, if\u00a0no one else is using it) Production has started on the construction of set props for the motion capture\u00a0shoot and it looks like we’ll be able to create something\u00a0resembling\u00a0a set for the actors; window frames,\u00a0doors, mantle piece, table etc. as well as 2 adjustable 8 by 3 foot ramps that we can use to make different\u00a0surface inclines.. No really! \u00a0You are on a steep mountain meadow!!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

We also now have a complete first draft of the screenplay which is presently undergoing\u00a0revisions. Our Art\u00a0director Jackie has already scribbled all over it with art related requests (demands). So it will hopefully at\u00a0the very least look good (arty). We now have a\u00a0rehearsal\u00a0and capture schedule that takes us from 25th July\u00a0through to the 25th of August. This has been a\u00a0particularly\u00a0challenging\u00a0task for the director, as he has found\u00a0scheduling\u00a045 scenes, with 8 actors, conflicting holidays, differnt\u00a0combinations\u00a0of actors in each scene and\u00a0different\u00a0set, prop and capture requirements akin to solving a \u00a050 sided rubiks cube,\u00a0underwater, whilst tap\u00a0dancing. \u00a0However, after a few nights of blankly starring at an excel spread sheet that is now too big to fit\u00a0on a 40 inch plasma screen, we have a fairly\u00a0concrete\u00a0timetable for shooting. \u00a0Still lots to do, as we\u00a0still need to organise some of the more\u00a0technical\u00a0aspects of each scene and dry run the audio, facial and\u00a0motion capture\u00a0processes\u00a0so we can keep the shoot moving along smoothly. \u00a0Talking of\u00a0dancing, We\u00a0now have a new role in \u00a0the team: student Natalie Curds has joined us to help organise some of the dance\u00a0elements of the film and presently has the title “Mistress of the Dance” until we can work out what her job’s\u00a0actually called. We also have a Music student, Thomas Duffin, \u00a0who has offered to start looking at sound design, which will form a vital part in the overall narrative and atmosphere of the film.\u00a0Also, our facial capture guy Geoff\u00a0Samuels\u00a0contunies to deveop his software and its coming along nicely; I know this\u00a0because\u00a0i now no longer fully understand his descriptions of how it \u00a0works.<\/p>\n

Cast news: Steph from our Gregg school\u00a0contingent has now taken on the additional role of Stina’s Aunt.\u00a0\u00a0We have a new\u00a0character: a boy in the village called “Petov” \u00a0who we are now looking to cast as soon as possible. We have also started auditioning for the\u00a0role\u00a0of “Pipe Catcher”. \u00a0All other roles are now cast. On the 2d art\u00a0front,\u00a0Dan Little our graphic artist\u00a0has\u00a0provided us with new logos for “FOAM digital” and “Stina and the Wolf” which are a vast improvement on the ones i knocked out last year.<\/p>\n

Along side the production\u00a0ramp up,\u00a0we have also been developing a full film quality 720p demo\u00a0sequence\u00a0of footage taken from mo-cap right\u00a0though\u00a0to finished render and composite;\u00a0complete\u00a0with with\u00a0foley,\u00a0sound design and music.\u00a0This\u00a0is about 80% complete and we will post up the full sequence next month. Other FOAM news: We now have a very large asset list for FOAM of all\u00a0the\u00a0characters, models and environments required for production. That should keep us busy for 25 years or so. Also, team\u00a0members\u00a0are now booked on to flights to Romania, so we can experience the\u00a0Carpathian\u00a0mountains for\u00a0ourselves\u00a0and hopefully bring some of that experience back with photos,\u00a0drawings and video. (travelling out in 2 groups on 2 consecutive days.. the joy of\u00a0on-line\u00a0booking) Myself\u00a0and Jackie will be flying out with 9 (at the last count) students.
